what

today i had a fantastic day skiing. I skied with a group of skiers from the local big sky ski shop, who were invited over for the day as a good will gesture by the club. I love skiers who can rip, and who more importantly want to rip, and even more than that whom I can drop when they think that they’re ripping. There is just a certain satisfaction knowing that even with a bum thumb and a gimpy arm I can still kick the ass of a bunch of punks. ahhh. But really it was a fun day skiing fast and taking chances. I can’t wait to do it again next year, skiing powder snow is not a bad way to past one’s time. no sir.

pain

I woke up today in so much pain. stupid pain, you’d think it was my body trying to teach me a lesson. But seriously, my elbow hurts like a mow fa dow if you know what i mean. I am glad that a still have such a supply of pain meds because i am using them to the fullest extent possiable. Ahhhh, one of the vicadin litteraly just kicked in. It is funny the way drugs work, one second you hurt, the next you don’t. But I know the pain is there, lurking, just waiting to hurt me again. Hopefully it will subside by tomorrow, or else there is no way I am going to make it to work, and that would be terriable because work rules.

bleeding

Damn I just Deleted a very long entry, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying. f. So the jist of it was this… I was at Big Sky, I was arcing these beautifully large tele turns at Mach 20, I came a bit too close to a patch of mud and crashed HARD into a sommersault through the mud where my elbow connected with a very sharp rock, I bled, oh how I bled. I knew there was something wrong when I could decern blood mixed with the mud that was covering my body head to toe. SO I sought medical attention, the doctor treating me was so hot, I so wanted to ask her out, but i thought better of it because of the circumstances, seeing as how nearly the first words out of her mouth were, you seem to have a bit of bone protruding from your elbow. So yeah it was a gapeing hole. 12 stiches, 3 deep, and the rest on top. Oh yeah, it’s the life. any way, I think today was 115 on the season, though i did lose track for a bit somewhere in the middle, rock!

Melting

I am melting, melting, melting, wait no, it is the snow that is melting, and in mass quantities, so sad. Not to say that it is not a particular joy to be skiing in sweet spring corn snow, but I am sorry to see my season slip slip sliding away. Big Sky has been such an incredible experience for me, every day working at the club has been the best day of employment of my life.

So my life is turning over to its next leaf, and what will that leaf say? that is sort of the question of the hour/week in my life right now. I am in the process of applying for two jobs, the first as a guide with an international adventure travel company, if I were to get that job it would distinctly rule and/or rock the casbah. The second job prospect is with a Alaskan tour company based in Juneau. Either way I hope to have a very interesting summer season. Let the snow melt.

So in the mean time I am still skiing a lot a lot, however, I have found that with my hand being gimpy the way that it is, telemark skiing is far easier than alpine, so I have been learning how to rip the teles big time. Oh it so much fun. I have gotten far far more proficient droping in on big steep lines with the free heel, and I can feel my mind lighting up, oh the wonders of slideing on snow.

post

Well I did not die. yippie! I suppose that the sacrifice of a powder day was well worth the return of a functional thumb. The doctor told me that he had not seen so much damage to thumb in quite a long time. Apparently I did not only tear my UCL (which is the traditional “skiers thumb” injury) but also TWO additional ligiments which would have given me a 0% chance of recovery had it not been fixed. So I feel very, very, good about my decision to get this done as quickly as I did. and I’m glad not to be dead. word

surgery

So I am going to get cut on today, and there is a foot of fresh snow outside, what a day to not be able to ski. :( wish me luck.
