running and dreaming

I have been dreaming a lot about running lately due to the lack of white precipitant in the alps this winter, and the other day after I awoke from one such dream I set out on a 40 KM loop on the trails all around Garmisch, It was a truly invigorating experience.

I also just got a new pair of Montrial hard rock running shoes that I think are pretty great.

RAF

A key member of the raf (red army faction), brigitte Mohnhaupt, was just released from a bavairian jail. The first time I heard of mohnhaupt was when I was talking to my friend dave who has an art studio next door to a woman who was her cell mate. I wonder if she will be dropping by any time soon, she I imagine would be an interesting person to have a conversation with.

Iran

I just watched a mass rally in Iran presided over by President Ahmadinejad live on cnn. I had no idea he was such a fantastic orator, he captivated the hundreds of thousands of people in the crowd completely. Unfortunately nearly every sentence he uttered was punctuated by nationalistic overtones. I suppose that if I had to a pick a world leader to be worried about he would have to be very high on my list, However I wonder how much of my worry is legitimate and how much has been influenced by the highly political nature of the nuclear question. In any event, hyper-nationalism does not have a very good track record for leading to peaceful solutions. not good.

HEre are a few pictures of me in Ischgl Austria on tele skis makeing a few of my first, long awaited, powder turns of the year.

IM

thomas: oh right because SOO many people read my little site

nihloisms: haha

thomas: I hardly read it

damn

I always think that I should do more with it

nihloisms: your site’s duration is impressive

comparatively

5 years archived

thomas: it has gone on for a while

which is really the only reason that I have not stopped

at least I have been blogging since way before it was cool

nihloisms: we’re not worthy

thomas: I just get so jaded

but I will come back around

I always do

nihloisms: What jades, exactly?

thomas: the idea of saying something

nihloisms: ah

thomas: in a world where so much is said

without meaning

putting more out

but with meaning

I suppose I some times struggle with assigning my own work meaning

I am not always sure where it is derived from

but then I think that it is more just me being lazy

nihloisms: impossible for me to tell

thomas: that was a blog entry right there

nihloisms: indeed

but it was private, so the embarrassment of its insignificance is mitigated

Thanksgiving

I am back in Colorado for thanksgiving! I am amazed by how happy I am to be in home for the holidays. My Mother has prepared such a spectacular feast for the occasion, we expect 25 people for dinner, it will be quite a party. There will be Jim and Peggy Steel, Bill and Linda Doty, Doloris the economist, Nadja Bietenhader, Tyler and Kim Holbrooke,  Mark Babinski, Ashley Fowler, Hector and Gonny Gutierez, Christy and John Holbrooke, Frank Mathews, Lisa and Stephen Bingham,  Daniel, Karen, and Dick Parks, and most likly a few more when it is all said and done. I LOVE big meals. I just hope we have enough wine :)

Snow

I am anxious for the coming ski season, I hope that the snow pack is more stable than it was last winter in the alps, the 2005/6 french avalanche report just came out, last year was scary. the alps can kick your ass.

Fall Sun

It is warm outside, nearly 25 degrees, and the first world cup ski race of the year is canceled in Soelden : ( It is supposedly the warmest October in the garmisch ever, and the rest of the alps aren’t far behind. I sure am glad global warming is a myth. otherwise I would say that we are barnied.

What I miss.

I miss good old american television, esspecially when it is all about the death of habeus corpus . maybe I miss that too.

Oktoberfest

oktoberfest has come and gone and now it is nearly Halloween, Halloween means that it is time for snow, and snow means skiing, and skiing, well skiing is skiing, but that brings us back to oktoberfest. I went this year with two friends, tall tom and neuman (I am the short thom) here are the pictures. We  had our first liter sized beer at 11:30am and our last of six liters at 9:30pm. the key to longevity at the Oktoberfest is correct eating, and that means a half roasted chicken and potato salad at lunch and a ton of big salty pretzels, it is the only way to survive. If you are able to stay up until the end it means that you get to dance on the benches with crazy girls in dirndls, Oktoberfest is ok.
